This charming one bedroom creekside cottage overlooks Elk Creek just outside the small rural village of Doty, Washington which still boasts that it has one of the few remaining "real" country stores in the state.  The Doty Store comes complete with a front porch, wood floors and a "postage stamp" sized post office and penny candy. This upper Chehalis River Valley offers striking views of Mt. Rainier and the surrounding Willapa Hills which are densely forested and home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife.  Elk Creek is one of the pristine fishing streams that meanders down the lush volcano valleys in Lewis County.

PROPERTY PROFILE

The cottage is located 18 miles west of Chehalis in southwest Washington near Rainbow Falls State Park on Scenic Byway #6.  The Park, only a mile away from the cottage, has several miles of trails through old growth forest, great swimming holes, picnic shelters, baseball diamonds and swings for the "kid in you."  Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier and ocean beaches are close enough for short day trips by car and it's less then an hours drive from Olympia the state capital. Also along Byway #6 you can visit the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad's steam train for a nostalgic ride along the Chehalis River and just as you turn off Byway #16 into Doty you cross the Chehalis-Raymond Rails to Trail.   This trail will take you all the way to the Pacific Ocean from Doty a distance of 35 miles.

COMFORTABLE ACCOMMODATIONS

Antiques and "future antiques" supply the interior of the cottage with a sense of warmth and country comfort.  The cottage has a bedroom with a queen sized bed, full bath, fully equipped kitchen (full sized range and refrigerator), and a living room with an electric wood stove and a sleeper sofa and dining room.  You can enjoy views of the creek and surrounding woodlands while relaxing on the deck or from most every room in the cottage.  The cottage accommodates four people comfortably.

It's hard to imagine a more inviting way to be soothed to sleep then by the rhythm of the creek with it's rapids above the cottage and waterfall below.  Allow yourself to be drawn in by the beauty of the creek and surrounding woodlands.  Calm prevails over this unique location where even the sunlight walks on tiptoes.

RELAX AND ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE

Explore the richness and diversity of this rural setting. Each morning take your favorite beverage in hand and sit on the deck overlooking the creek where you can simply relax in a comfortable chair and enjoy the views and sounds of the water. The Cottage has cable TV, DVD (w/movies), radioo w/CD player (w/an assortment of CDs), and phone that can be used with a long distance calling card or dial-up for internet access.

Walk, fish, ride, run, nap, cook, sit or watch the light paint pictures on the water as it flows by.  Enjoy an afternoon BBQ, a grill is provided.  Pinic table and outdoor chairs provided.

ATTRACTIONS

Take a leisurly bike ride along miles of country roads and visit the neighboring village of Dryad the site of an 1890's ghost town just a half mile away. Fish for Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout from the deck of the cottage or visit the fish ladder at the falls just a few steps away down an ajoining trail to observe salmon as they migrate upstream in the spring and fall to spawn.  Native birds, deer and other wildlife abound.

Just a couple of miles down the road at Rainbow Falls State. The Park features 10 miles of hiking and 7 miles of brike trails in old-growth forest, fishing and swimming, bird watching, and a soft ball field along with a variety of picnic area.

Visit the Twin Cities (Chehalis and Centralia) and brouse the abundant antique malls in Centralia.  Drive the Old Pacific Hwy. 99 (now the Jackson Highway) and dine at Mary McCrankis landmark dinner house for real home cooking served family style. Spend a lively afternoon or evening at McMenamins Olympic Club in Centralia enjoying live entertainment, great food and some of Washington's best micro-brewery beers. Pick wild huckleberries, spot a herd of Roosvelt elk, and Black-tail deer and soak up the scenery.
